How can I rejoice when life is difficult?
Although it was written thousands of years ago, Habakkuk’s prayer reads as if it came from our headlines today. He looks around him, and he is inundated with scenes of violence, of injustice, of oppression. Where is God in this? Does He see? Or hear? Does He know? Why is He silent?
Finally, the Lord responds. He takes Habakkuk on a journey of faith that both challenges him and gives him a deeper understanding of our Lord’s person, His plans, and His power. His response to Habakkuk is His response to us today, encouraging us to trust Him when life is falling apart even as we trust Him when all is well. His challenge to us is to refocus our eyes on Him, and declare along with Habakkuk: Yet I Will Rejoice!
