“In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity”
The origin of this quote is debated, but its wisdom is widely accepted. These are the essentials by which Treasuring God’s Word studies are written:
The Bible
The Bible is the only inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God, inerrant in the original writings. (1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:15-17)
The Trinity
There is one God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19; John 10:30; Ephesians 4:4-6)
Jesus
The Lord Jesus Christ is God. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died, was buried, was bodily resurrected. He ,has ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will personally return in power and glory. (Matthew 1:23; John 1:1-4 and 1:29; Acts 1:11 and 2:22-24; Romans 8:34; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 2:5-11; Hebrews 1:1-4 and 4:15)
Salvation
All humanity is lost, sinful, and in need of salvation, destined to hell because of rebellion against our Creator. Our only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who paid the penalty for our sins, exchanging our sinfulness for His righteousness, so that we stand before the Judge fully justified. (Matthew 1:23; John 1:1-4 and 1:29; Acts 1:11 and 2:22-24; Romans 8:34; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 2:5-11; Hebrews 1:1-4 and 4:15)
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is presently active in believers’ lives, a gift that seals us and guarantees our eternal inheritance. It is by His indweeling power that the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life. (John 3:5-8; Acts 1:8 and 4:31; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 2:14; Galatians 5:16-18; Ephesians 6:12; Colossians 2:6-10)
Eternity
Both the saved and the unsaved will be bodily resurrected. Those who are saved will enter the resurrection of life, and those who are unsaved will experience the resurrection of damnation. (1 Corinthians 15:51-57; Revelation 20:11-15
